Budget Process Chronology:

June 16  The Board unanimously adopted a $1.42B operating budget at its June 16 meeting. The budget is 94% of the FY09 budget and does not call for a tax increase.

June 3 The Board of County Commissioners has given tentative approval to an FY10 County operating budget. The so-called straw vote was conducted June 3.

June 2 The following documents were presented to the Board regarding the recommended FY2010 budget:

May 26  The Board of County Commissioners and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education held a joint meeting to discuss their FY2010 budgets and options for functional consolidation:

April 7  County Manager recommends $38 million in service and personnel cuts

March 11  The Board receives a Budget Update and Capital Assessment presentation

March 3   The Board approves a $5m reduction in current year funding for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

Feb 27  Report on the local disbursement of lottery funds and the possibility of closing some parks and libraries to reduce costs

Feb 24

Feb 20  County Manager directs Mecklenburg County department and agency budgets to be cut $17.4 million

Feb 17  County Manager updates the Board on the status of the revenue gap and actions to reduce operating expenses

Feb 16  Outside Non-profit Organizations looking for County funding in the upcoming budget may attend an optional information session on February 24

Jan 29  County Manager Harry Jones talks about the challenges in the County's budget
