About MeckCares

Dear Parents, Families, and Caregivers:

I am a parent of a child with emotional and behavioral disorders and have had the opportunity to be a part of developing this series of MeckCARES resources (below) for parents in hopes of helping other families in similar situations.

My motivation in assisting with this project comes from the many struggles I faced as I searched for answers and assistance in helping my child and family as we went through crises (and continue to experience, from time to time). You may have decided to read these because you are concerned that your child needs help getting along with others, controlling his or her behaviors, or expressing emotions. Depending on your child's needs and your family's situation, you might look for help from schools, health clinics or hospitals, community mental health centers, social service programs, and possibly, the courts. When different agencies work together and include you and your family as a team, this is the beginning of a system of care.

It is important for you to remember that services are family driven. Tell your service planning team and service providers what services and supports you need. Be clear about your family's strengths, your needs, and what you think will help your child and family the most.  We all need to open ourselves up to the many resources that can improve our emotional lives.

Sincerely,
Barbara, a MeckCARES Parent
