At the request of Charlotte's City Council, The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee (CRC) convened representatives from City and County government, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, area non-profits and the faith community to form a community collaborative that addresses parenting, youth employment, mentoring and gangs.

ANNOUNCING NEW RESOURCES

The Free Store, located at 1211 Parkwood Charlotte, NC 28205, has donated items available for free to people going through hard times or struggling. Donated items include clothing, toys, furniture, household items, etc. This store is open to the public. Items are free and no paperwork is required. For hours, or if you would like to make a donation, call Paul at 704-345-4654.

Free Parent Support Group: The Barber Therapy and the Greenville Community CYO Family Center have partnered to provide a free support group for parents who have lost temporary or permanent custody of their child or children. Anyone interested in attending this group, please contact: Sherille Barber (704) 301-0625. Group Meeting is scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of every month beginning November 20, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Greenville Community CYO Family Center.

Caregivers/Foster Parents: Barber Therapy and the Greenville Community CYO have partnered to provide a free support group for caregivers/foster parents who are providing care for children who have been removed from their primary caretaker. .Group Meeting Schedule for the 3rd Thursday of every month beginning November 20, 2008, 12:00 p.m.-12:50 p.m. at Greenville Community CYO Family Center: Contact Person- Mrs. Sadler (704) 335-0887, 1211 Spring Street, Charlotte, NC 28206.

Sharing Family Strengths Activity Booklet: Family & Children's Service in Minneapolis has published the Sharing Family Strengths Activity Booklet, a resource being made available at no cost to families, teachers, mental health professionals, social workers, and community professionals who work with kids and families. The 16-page hands-on guide is designed with the goal of helping parents and children identify and nurture family strengths through fun activities and helpful ideas. The Sharing Family Strengths Activity Booklet is available free while supplies last. To request a hard copy or download an e-copy in PDF format, visit their websitehttp://www.everyfamilymatters.org.
