Mission Statement

The mission of the DVAC is to convene a group of professional and other concerned individuals committed to networking, communicating and coordinating to solve problems in the community response system, to increase public awareness, support educational efforts, and to otherwise advocate for the victims of domestic violence and their families in order to end domestic violence in our community.

In July 1986, the DVAC was formed to improve the coordination between domestic violence related agencies and the criminal justice system providing services to victims of domestic violence.

The goals of the Advocacy Council are:

  • To provide inter-system advocacy and promote community advocacy.
  • To act as a coordinating body, with members agreeing to try to benefit the victim by resolving systemic problems.
  • To alert interested community parties, including local units of government, to the needs of domestic violence related services or responses to violence, which are beyond the scope or means of the Advocacy council.  The Council is composed of representatives from various agencies.
